Reach out to the community and mold future minds simultaneously. Thanks for considering volunteering at IU-SOC! Below are some details about volunteering at the clinic. Faculty are integral to the success of the clinic. We would love to have you join us on a Saturday. We now have faculty from seven different health professions (medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, social work, law, physical therapy, and occupational therapy) who supervise students at the clinic.

For Faculty Physicians:

The responsibilities of the staff physician include:

  • Seeing and staffing each patient registered; reviewing and co-signing each visit chart before leaving the clinic
  • Signing any necessary prescriptions. You will have to assess the patient needs case by case to recommend the best approach to care. For example, if a patient already has a PCP and requests a refill; the pharmacy student under faculty supervision will help the patient to contact his PCP to obtain the refill.
  • Referral for patients is permitted to the appropriate services for continuity of care according to their options. I.e. HIP, Medicaid,Community Health Centers, Wishard Advantage, and Project Health or follow up at the free clinic.

NEW: Through a partnership with the Division of Continuing Medical Education at IUSM, we are now able to offer an opportunity for volunteering physicans to receive credit.  Email us to find out more!
